Polish has a relatively simple vowel system, with eight vowels that are all of the same length - two of which are nasalized (ą, ę). On the other hand, the consonant system is rather complicated with many different fricatives and affricatives, as well as - like many other Slavic languages - rather heavy consonant clusters.

Nouns in Polish are declined in three gendera (masculine, feminine, neuter) and seven cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, instrumental, locative, vocative), and verbs are conjugated after person, number, and gender.
